When one encounters a building the issue of control and authority are realised by pathways (Ravelli 2008, McMurtrie 2011 pp. 706-731). Our park was designed for time poor business people, therefore we wanted to place a map at the entrances of each park. This "wayfinding" signage gives the visitor clarity on what pathways are expected in the park. However as this is a space where we want to promote freedom, we wanted this to be to the only suggestive signage we want to communicate. Through non verbal control, we allow the visitor to walk off the park. This is so as we have eliminated any "controlling" signage where the visitor can choose to follow the pathway or not. However we still want to ensure safety and therefore decided to place an "advising" signage to warn the visitors to not swim in the water. We wanted to also place the park's name "Green Creek" on the entrance map to give the visitor an idea of the most salient part of our park, the Gazebo and creek. This transparency in the name of the park as well as the "wayfinding" signage demands the visitor to explore the park to reach the Goal - the gazebo. We decided we wanted to be seen as an institution that allows freedom however control and advising when needed as we care for the safety and time conscious state of our visitors.
