Binding refers to how an individual feels in the "relationship between affect and space" and this is experienced within "one dimension of the three-dimensional space" (Stenglin 2004: 115). Further to this, one can feel "claustrophobic" within a strongly bound space and "agoraphobic" within a strongly unbound space dependant on the individual's personality. The degree of bound is variable therefore is measured by a binding contour. Naturally our park is unbound, therefore we wanted to place some bound space to make the client feel more secure in certain spaces. We incorporated a wall made of log in the running path. This allows the viewer to have privacy when running where they don't feel like the are being judged by other visitors. We also place a tunnel made of log. We introduced the log tunnel as this has a connotation of natural rawness. This allows the visitor to experience a dependance on nature to create their bound space and therefore an appreciation for how nature creates bound spaces within their everyday life. They can also appreciate the unbound space once they walk out off the tunnel where the experience a strongly bound effect to a strongly unbound effect. This also allows the client to have a deeper appreciation of the free unbound space that comes with the natural beauty of open space within nature. This is an experience that they wouldn't have normally had within their every day rat race. Therefore we are creating a unique experience with a deeper meaning for freedom and pleasure in the little things in life.
